Primary 2

The boys and girls in Primary 1 enjoyed a teddy bear's picnic with their favourite teddies to celebrate the end of our 'Great Outdoors' topic and our class assembly 'We're going on a bear hunt'. We played games, danced, enjoyed some snacks and sang the famous Teddy Bear's picnic song.

The boys and girls in Primary 1a enjoyed celebrating World Book Day on Thursday 7th March by dressing up as a character from their favourite book.   This coincided with the grand opening of our newly refurbished school library where the children had the opportunity to participate in paired reading sessions with their primary 7 buddies.  The children also chose a book to borrow from the library to read at home and these can be exchanged for a new book every Friday.   The children also took part in various other activities throughout the day including 'drop everything and read' and design a book cover competition.  It was lovely to see the boys in girls so enthusiastic about reading and I'm sure you'll agree they all looked fabulous in their costumes!

As part of our topic 'The Great Outdoors' the boys and girls in primary 1 have been learning all about living and non-living things and life cycles.   The children explored the life cycle of a plant by planting cress seeds then making sure they had water and sunlight to grow. They also learned the different parts of a plant through a song (to the familiar tune of Head, Shoulders, Knees and Toes). Why don't you ask your child to sing it to check if they can remember the main parts of a plant?  Next month, once Spring is fully upon us, we hope to further explore life cycles by hatching some caterpillar eggs! The children are really enjoying their new topic. We have even transformed our role play area into a Garden Centre so that the children can consolidate their learning during our play-based sessions. 

The boys and girls at Edinbarnet were lucky enough to experience a judo taster session from a qualified and experienced trainer from IJF (International Judo Federation).    The children had lots of fun whilst learning more about the sport and some basic judo moves.  The children showed great listening and respect for the rules of judo, to ensure that they practised safely and sensibly.   For anyone wishing to develop their skills further, flyers with details of local classes were distributed in homework packs last week.
